Drake's Lahart and Moorehead Named First-Team Academic All-District
DES MOINES, Iowa--Two members of Drake's football team have earned first-team Capital One Academic All-District honors for 2011 from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Fifth-year senior cornerback Michael Lahart (Chariton, Iowa) and senior linebacker Tyler Moorehead (Mason City, Iowa) were selected to the District VI first team for their outstanding performance in the classroom and their elite play on the field. Each has played a key role in helping Drake put together a record of 8-2 with a chance to win the Pioneer Football League championship.
Lahart and Moorehead remain eligible to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA as well.
Lahart, who leads the team in interceptions with four despite missing the season's first three games because of injury, carries a 3.89 grade-point average in pharmacy. He has been named to the Dean's List (GPA greater than 3.5) three semesters and to the President's List (4.0) four semesters, and was a first-team Academic All-PFL honoree in 2010. He was named to the second-team in 2008.
Moorehead, who leads the team in tackles with 72 (49 solo) and ranks second in sacks with 7.5, carries a 3.66 grade-point average as a pharmacy major. Moorehead was a second-team academic all-district choice in 2009, and has earned first-team Academic All-PFL honors for the past three seasons (2008-10), while also being a Drake Presidential Scholarship winner
The Bulldogs play Dayton at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 12, at Drake Stadium in the final regular season game of 2011. Drake has an opportunity, with a win, to earn at least a share of the PFL title. Depending upon results of other PFL gams tomorrow and next Saturday, there remains a possibility for the Bulldogs to win the conference outright.
