ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Drake University's Steven Enna (Overland Park, Kan.) and Emma Huston (Des Moines, Iowa) have been named the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday.
Enna, a sophomore on the men's soccer team, scored a golden goal to lift the Bulldogs past Western Illinois, 1-0, on Oct. 14 in Macomb, Ill. Enna played 62 minutes and led the Bulldogs with two shots on goal. In the 98th-minute (98:36), Enna collected a misplay by WIU's goalkeeper on a Drake corner kick and punched it in the net for the game-winner. Enna is second on the team in goals this season with three and holds a 3.64 cumulative grade point average as a business major.
Huston, a senior on the cross country team, recorded an all-time program best 6k time of 20:28.5 to finish third in the 267-runner field at the Bradley Classic last Friday. Her 6k time is the fastest in the Valley by more than four seconds this season and helped pace the Bulldogs to nine personal bests on the day and the team to a ninth-place finish in the 30-team field ahead of programs such as Bradley, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon State, and UNI. Academically she owns a 3.96 GPA as a biology major.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
