DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake junior men's soccer player Nick Marshall (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) has been selected as a second-team
honoree to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men's Soccer
Team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA).
Marshall becomes the sixth
Bulldog to earn national-team accolades and the third to garner second-team honors. Additionally, he was the lone men's representative
from the Missouri Valley Conference to be named to the first-, second- or
third-teams.
"I am extremely proud
of Nick as this award is reflective of his hard work and dedication on and off
the field," Drake head coach Sean Holmes commented. "These
awards reward your ability not only as a player, but also your behavior in the
classroom as a student. That Nick is such a great leader on the field is an
added bonus."
A computer science and
chemistry major, Marshall highlighted the squad by owning a perfect 4.00 GPA,
the highest GPA on the 11-member second team.
A
two-time first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete selection,
Marshall started all 21 games for the Bulldogs this past season, recording a
pair of goals on 16 shots from his defender's position.
To be nominated, a
