Shrout and Gorczyca, on the road again....
Hey there Bulldog men's soccer fans,
We're coming off of our first week of the season and we're
2-1. We had hoped to be 3-0, but our
lone loss to Michigan provided us with a good learning experience. We played a good game, but didn't
finish our chances against a tough Michigan team and it came back to haunt us
in the end. They scored a late
goal to beat us and give us our first loss of the season. We bounced back, though, with a 2-0 win
against a solid Marquette squad on Sunday. We got pretty good crowds at both of our games this weekend. A special thanks goes out to the Drake
football team for coming out and supporting us on Sunday. It was much appreciated and we hope to
see them again when we return home again.
This week I will interview Luke Gorczyca #11…
How do you feel about
the start of the season?
I feel we have played three quality teams, and unfortunately we let the
Michigan game slip away from us. However,
being able to start the season off at home in front of some great fans
definitely benefited us and rallied us to five second half goals. We have to correct our mistakes and
concentrate in the final third of the field.
What is your
outlook on the rest of the year?
Well, we have a quite a difficult test in front us
with seven away games where the schedule doesn't get easier. I look forward to flying to UAB and
playing two teams I have never seen play before. As for the rest of the season I am pumped for my last year, and
I'm hoping to get another chance in the NCAA tournament.
How have you
seen the program change since you were a freshman?
Over the years, I feel this program has earned the
recognition we deserve. I feel
like more people don't get us confused with Duke as much and they actually know
that Drake is located in Des Moines, Iowa. A special thing about this year's team is our depth. In the past we played eleven or twelve
players, and now we can play eighteen.
Something that hasn't changed is how close knit we are off the field and
I credit the guys that have come through this program before me.
We have a tough weekend ahead of us. Currently, we are en route to
Birgminham, Alabama where we will play UAB and Memphis. They are going to be solid teams and we
need to play our best in order to pick up two results this weekend. Thanks again for all the support!
