Fresh off its second straight Pioneer Football League title,
the Drake University football earned eight top 25 votes in the final Sports
Network FCS Top 25 Poll released this week.
The Bulldogs were the only PFL squad to earn recognition in
the poll and of the 45 teams that earned at least one vote in the poll, Drake
finished ahead of programs such as Northern Iowa, Maine, Southern Illinois,
South Carolina State, Howard and Sacramento State.
The votes also mark the second straight season the Bulldogs
have earned recognition in the postseason poll.
With the conclusion of the FCS season over the weekend, the
Bulldogs are also finished the season ranked nationally in various categories.
Drake's passing offense ranked ninth at 302.7 yards per game
while the pass efficiency defense ranked 16th. The Bulldogs' 329.18
yards per game allowed ranked 25th nationally as well. Of the 17
team stats tracked by the NCAA, Drake ranked in the top 50 of 13 of them.
Individually, senior record-setting quarterback Mike
Piatkowski finished the season ranked 13th nationally in total
offense with 291.6 yards per game.
