The Drake men's basketball coaching staff has inked the following eight student-athletes to its 2023 signing class.
Chico Johnson | G | 6'3" | Toledo, Ohio
ESPN 4-Star recruit… First Team All-Ohio and All-District VII Division II Player of the Year in 2021-22… Averaged a team-high 15.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game as a junior…. Boosted Central Catholic to its first district title since 2011 in 2020-21 averaging 14.8 points per game while being honored as All-Ohio Special Mention… Drake men's basketball's lone signee during this year's Fall National Signing Day.
Kevin Overton | G | 6'3" | Oklahoma City, Okla.
247Sports 3-Star recruit… No. 7 ranked player in Kansas and No. 37 combo guard in the nation according to 247sports… Prepped at Norman North before playing a post-grad season at Sunrise Christian in Wichita… Helped Sunrise Christian to a 30-win season… Led Sunrise Christian in points and steals.
Ethan Roberts | G | 6'5" | Arlington Heights, Ill.
Transfer from Army West Point… Patriot League Rookie of the Year… Averaged 12.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists… Shot 40.7 percent (59-for-145) from beyond the arc… Prepped at Hersey High School.
Atin Wright | G | 6'1" | Hawthorne, Calif.
Transfer from CSUN… Averaged 16.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists last season for the Matadors… 2022-23 and 2021-22 All-Big West Honorable Mention… During the 2021-22 season, he led CSUN in points per game (14.5), minutes per game (33.9), 3-point field goals made (53), free throws made (95) and free throw percentage (83.3)… Played in high school at Fairmont Prep where he averaged 22.7 points with 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.1 steals his senior season.
Carlos Rosario | F | 6'7" | Santo Domingo, D.R.
Transfer from Washington State… Appeared in 22 games averaging 9.9 minutes, 2.2 points and 1.5 rebounds during the 2022-23 season… Medically redshirted the 2021-22 campaign… Got to the United States prior to his junior year of high school from the Dominican Republic… Played at Veritas Prep in California where he averaged 13.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in his second season.
Kyron Gibson | G | 6'1" | Alexandria, La.
Transfer from UT Arlington… Averaged a team-high 11.2 points, 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals last season… Spent his sophomore season at Lee College (NJCAA) where he was named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team and to the NJCAA All-Region XIV First Team averaging 17 points, 6.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds… Prepped at Peabody Magnet High School.
Colby Garland | G | 6'1" | Magnolia, Ark.
Spent last year with a post-grad season at Link Year Prep… Averaged 18.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field… Prior to Link Year, he helped Maumelle High School to back-to-back state championships.
Patrick Bath | F | 6'9" | Plymouth, Minn.
247Sports 3-Star recruit… Ranked as the third-best prospect in Minnesota class of 2023… SBLive Minnesota All-State Honorable mention in 2022-23.
