COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Drake University softball team completed their tour of the Show Me State this evening with a non-MVC matchup at Missouri. The Bulldogs (6-17, 0-3) battled the Tigers (20-11, 1-5) to a 7-1 defeat.
After a scoreless first frame, Missouri got things going with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning. The next inning, Kara Daly added to the Tigers' total with a two-run home run over the left field fence.
Mizzou then tallied their fourth run of the game the following frame when a Drake error brought another Tiger run across.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the fifth innings when
Carey Koenig doubled to left center to advanced
Skylar Rigby and bring
Paige Bedsworth, Drake's starting pitcher, home. The fifth-inning score was the only run of the game for Drake.
Missouri added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single and another double to reach the eventual final score of 7-1.
Bedsworth took the loss for Drake, going 1.2 innings with three hits and a run allowed. Mizzou's Cierra Harrison improved to 6-1 after earning the win for the Tigers.
The Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend when they host Indiana State is Des Moines for their home-opening weekend. Drake and the Sycamores are set to start their three-game series with one matchup per day from Friday, Mar. 24 to Sunday, Mar. 26.
