FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Drake University softball team finished their challenging weekend at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The Bulldogs took on the hosts from Arkansas in the weekend finale, an 8-0 Razorback victory.
Arkansas (13-3) got out to an early lead with a three-run first inning. Cylie Halvorson started the scoring for the Razorbacks with a two-run home run followed by RBI walk of Lauren Camenzind.
The Razorbacks plated two more in the third inning with another deep blast, this one off the bat of Kacie Hoffmann.
The Hogs provided the final blow in the fifth frame with two-RBI double by leadoff hitter Reagan Johnson.
Mackenzie Hupke earned the loss in just 0.2 innings with three hits and three runs allowed.
Paige Bedsworth and
Emma Dighton both saw relief work in the circle.
The Drake offense struggled against the eighth-ranked Razorbacks as
MaKayla Rice and Dighton logged the Bulldogs' only two base hits. Elsewhere,
Haylee Lehman stole a base for Drake and
Carey Koenig reached safely after getting hit by a pitch.
The Bulldogs will continue their tour of early season tournaments next weekend with a trip to the Blues City Classic in Memphis, Tenn. Drake will face off against the likes of North Dakota State, SIUE, Memphis, and UTSA from Mar. 3 to Mar. 5.
