Maguranyanga Advances To NCAA West Preliminary Quarterfinals

Sophomore moves on to Saturday's quarterfinal.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Drake University sprinter Kundai Maguranyanga finished third in his heat of the men's 200 meters to advance to the quarterfinals of the event at the NCAA West Preliminary Friday night.

Maguranyanga, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference MVP, automatically advanced with the top-three finish in his heat as he was third in the sixth heat of the event with a time of 20.87. His time was the 23rd fastest of the day to move him into Saturday's quarterfinal at 9:50 p.m. with the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Maguranyanga was one of two Drake student-athletes to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary along with senior Kevin Kelly. Kelly competed in the 1,500 meters Thursday evening and finished in 3:50.62, but did not advance with the 39th fastest time of the day.
