Women's Basketball Wraps Up Stay In Rome Before Traveling To Florence

On the third day of their trip to Italy, the Bulldogs saw a few more sites in the Eternal City before venturing to the birthplace of the Renaissance

Greetings from Florence! The Bulldogs and their travel party have arrived in the capital city of Italy's Tuscany region.

During the day, some of the Bulldogs recapped the trip so far on the team's blog for the trip. Make sure you read first-hand accounts of the sites and experiences from the student-athletes here.

It was another busy day for the group as we visited the Colosseum and the Roman Forum this morning before leaving Rome. We were able to take a short guided tour of the iconic symbol of Imperial Rome before having free time to wonder the multiple levels of the massive stone amphitheater that was commissioned around A.D. 70-72 by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian dynasty as a gift to the Roman people. The Colosseum was home to gladiatorial combats, wild animal fights and many other events during its four centuries of active use. The group then wrapped up its time in Rome with a visit to the Roman Forum, which was once the social, political and commercial hub of the Roman empire and just outside the Colosseum.

It was then off to Florence, which was just over three hours away via our bus. Speaking of our bus, we want to give a special thank you to our amazing driver, Marcelle and our Italian guide, Kristina, for taking such great care of us and getting our large group safely and efficiently from place to place here in Italy. We are staying at the magnificent, Grand Hotel Baglioni, here, in Florence.

That is, it for tonight, but tomorrow is a big day as it's our first GAME DAY! We will play TK Hannover (German) at 6:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. CST).
