Abrahamson Earns Two MVC Honors

Redshirt junior scored 41 points in Drake's win over WKU

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - Drake University redshirt junior Kale Abrahamson (West Des Moines, Iowa) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday, Nov. 30. The following day, Abrahamson was named the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Abrahamson, a 6-8 forward who transferred from Northwestern, led Drake in scoring last week with 22.0 points per game on 52.7 percent shooting to help the Bulldogs go 3-1 on the week.

In the Bulldogs' win over WKU to open the Gulf Coast Showcase, he scored a career-high 41 points to tie for the seventh most single-game points in school history and the most since the 1980-81 season. His 41-point outburst was the highest in the nation at the time and currently ranks second.

His 41 points came on 13-of-23 shooting, 4-of-10 from the three-point arc and a perfect 11-of-11 at the free-throw line. His performance set a Gulf Coast Showcase single-game scoring record and earned him a spot on the all-tournament team.

In Saturday's win over UIC, he scored 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting and was 6-of-9 from the three-point arc.

He earned the academic honor by virtue of his 4.0 grade point average in his first semester of graduate courses. In May, he received his bachelor's degree in psychology in just three years.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Dec. 5, when they travel to Bowling Green for a 3 p.m. CST game.
