SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - Two Drake University volleyball student-athletes have earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, the league announced Tuesday, Nov. 24. Both
Katie Dulek (Lenexa, Kan.) and
Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) earned the honor for their work on the court and in the classroom.
A total of 23 student-athletes were honored with 12 on the first team and 11 receiving honorable mention. Dulek and Inderski were among those on the honorable mention squad.
Inderski, a sophomore who owns a 3.8 grade point average as a business major, tied for the team lead in kills with 350 this past season and was second in digs with 421. She recorded 15 double-doubles on the season. She ranked 13th in the MVC in kills on the season.
Dulek finished her senior season as the Bulldogs' top blocker with 99 total blocks on the season and was fourth on the team with 128 kills. Through three years at Drake, she has maintained a 3.60 GPA as a secondary education and environmental science major.
Forty-six student-athletes were nominated for the Valley's scholar-athlete team. The criterion for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75-percent of the regular-season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible).
The Bulldogs finished their season with a 15-20 record for their most wins since 2010. In 2016, the Bulldogs are slated to return their top three hitters along with their leader in digs.
