WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball program celebrated the 2013-14 campaign during its annual postseason banquet Sunday afternoon at the Sheraton West Des Moines.
Seniors Alyssa Marschner (Plymouth, Minn.) and Mary Pat Specht (Shawnee, Kan.) were honored for their Drake careers and each gave senior remarks to the large crowd of supporters and fans of the program.
Several team awards were presented as Marschner was honored with the Carole Baumgarten Coaches award, while junior Kyndal Clark (Webb City, Mo.) was named the Lorri Bauman Most Outstanding Player for the second consecutive season.
Freshman Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.) capped a historic first season as she was selected the Wanda Ford Most Outstanding Rebounder.
Junior Cara Lutes (Maplewood, Minn.) was awarded the Jan Jensen Academic and Service Excellence award for the second-straight year. Lutes was presented with the prestigious Missouri Valley Conference Elite 18 award, which she won at last month's MVC Championship game in St. Charles, Mo. The Elite 18 award is given to the student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average in each sport's respective championship contest.
Junior Liza Heap (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) earned the BeBlue Team award, while sophomore Emma Donahue (Naperville, Iowa) was honored with the Charles E. Leonard award.
The banquet program also featured remarks from head coach Jennie Baranczyk and director of athletics Sandy Hatfield Clubb.
