The Drake men's golf team is set to be challenged by a pair of events this week as the Bulldogs travel to Omaha, Neb., on Wednesday (Sept. 26) for a dual match with Creighton before visiting Manhattan, Kan., for the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate next Monday (Oct. 1) and Tuesday (Oct. 2).

The Omaha Country Club, which is hosting the 2013 U.S. Senior Open, is the site of the dual match against Creighton that will tee off at 2:00 p.m.  The format will include six players battling for each team with the top-four scores per squad determining the team champion.

The 54-hole Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, hosted by Kansas State University, will be held at the Colbert Hills Golf Course.  Golfers will tee off the event starting with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m. each day.

The 10-team field includes: Creighton, Drake, Idaho, Kansas State, Missouri State, Nebraska Omaha, Southern Illinois, Valparaiso, Western Illinois and Wichita State (individuals only).

Drake concluded its stay at the Ram Master Invitational hosted by Colorado State with an 11th-place finish among 15 teams at the Fort Collins Country Club on Sept. 18, firing a final round 297 to register a 54-hole total of 893 (308-288-297).

The Bulldogs found themselves in the middle of a congested leaderboard where five strokes decided eighth through 11th places.

Freshman Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) carded a career-low 70 over the last 18 holes to lead the Bulldogs' efforts on the tournament's final day.

Redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) was Drake's top finisher, posting a 54-hole score of 221 (72-70-79) to tie for 28th place.

Junior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and sophomore Blake Huser (Altoona, Iowa) shot identical 225 totals for the tournament to earn 47th-place showings.  Steele turned in a 73 for the final 18 holes, while Huser signed for a 76.

Rounding out Drake's contingent was junior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) with a score of 233 (78-77-78=233/T-74th).

Devin Leland (72-70-79=221/T-28th), Connor Steele (80-72-73=225/T-47th), Blake Huser (78-71-76=225/T-47th), Will McDonald (85-75-70=230/T-67th) and Matt Ohl (78-77-78=233/T-74th).

Matt Lewis is in his second season leading the Drake's men's golf program after being named head coach on July 26, 2011.

In his first campaign directing the Bulldogs, Drake turned in top-10 finishes in six tournaments and was led by Devin Leland and Blake Huser, who posted scoring averages of 76.3 and 76.8, respectively.

In a finish where only eight strokes separated the third- to eighth-place finishers, Drake earned a seventh-place showing at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship on the strength of a 910 (303-292-315) score.

Huser tied for 12th at the State Farm MVC Championship.  Also earning tournament flags for top-18 finishes were Ben Lyons and Dane Worley, who tied for 18th place.

The Bulldogs travel to Kansas City, Mo., to compete in the Bill Ross Intercollegiate hosted by UMKC (Oct. 15-16).
