DES MOINES, Iowa – The Creighton University rowing team edged the Drake University team in its annual duel on the Des Moines River. The Bluejays captured two out of three varsity races to reclaim the cup that Drake had won the previous two years.
Creighton’s win in the first varsity eight race clinched the duel victory. The Bluejays also edged the Bulldogs in the varsity four showdown, while Drake took the second varsity eight race. The Bulldogs claimed victories over the Bluejays in the two novice exhibition races.
“Congratulations and hats off to Creighton for their performance today,” said Drake head coach Charlie DiSilvestro. “I’m proud of our team today. We raced well, but Creighton was just a little better. Today was another opportunity to learn about head-to-head racing.”
Today’s showdown with the Bluejays closes the 2013 fall campaign for the Bulldogs. Drake now enters their winter training program and will return to competition in the spring of 2014.
“We are excited for the upcoming spring season,” commented DiSilvestro. “We will now start indoor training in preparation for our winter training trip we will take in January to Tampa, Fla. We need to use today as motivation over these next couple long winter months to get ready for the spring.”
