Hartley Hired As Drake Assistant Volleyball Coach
DES MOINES, Iowa – Nicollette Hartley has been hired as a Drake University volleyball assistant coach, head coach Darrin McBroom announced on Wednesday, June 11.
Hartley has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. In 2013, she helped the Hawks capture their first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament title as the team qualified for the Division II NCAA Tournament.
"I am very excited that Nicollette has decided to join our staff at Drake,” McBroom said. “I have known her and her family for several years and I know that she is committed to doing a great job for our program. I think she will be a great fit."
Hartley played for McBroom for two seasons at Longview Community College (Mo.) before finishing her playing career at Rockhurst. She was a two-year starter at middle hitter at Rockhurst, and recorded 494 kills. She was twice named to the National Junior College Athletic Association all-region first team at Longview and helped the team finish ninth in the nation in 2007.
“It means so much to me to get this amazing opportunity,” Hartley said. “It has been a dream of mine since the third grade to coach Division I volleyball. I am beyond excited to coach with Darrin. I love his coaching philosophy and agree with how he treats his players. We get along great and I cannot wait to work with him.”
Hartley, a native of Liberty, Mo., graduated with a bachelor’s of science in sports science and a master’s degree in educational studies from Rockhurst. Hartley has coached for several seasons at the club and high school levels in the Kansas City metro area.
