Yeager Finishes 12th At USA Indoor Championships
Albuquerque, N.M. – Drake University senior hurdler Sarah Yeager (Ottumwa, Iowa) finished 12th in the women’s 60-meter hurdles at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.
Yeager turned in a time of 8.46 in her semifinal heat on Saturday to finish 12th and less than two-tenths of a second away from qualifying for the finals. She advanced to the semifinals by finishing 11th in the preliminary heats with a 8.45 on Saturday afternoon.
The defending Missouri Valley Conference champion in the 100-meter outdoor hurdles spent the weekend competing against the top professional hurdlers in the country including a slew of elite athletes that will grace the Drake Stadium track in the spring for the 2014 Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee.
Nia Ali is one of those athletes and she will travel to Des Moines as the national champion in the indoor 60-meter hurdles after winning the finals in the event on Sunday with a time of 7.80. Kristi Castlin, who will also compete at the Drake Relays, was third in 7.88.
Yeager has exhausted her indoor eligibility at Drake and competed as an unattached athlete this winter. With one season of outdoor eligibility remaining, she will join her teammates in the spring in hopes of defending her MVC title in the hurdles.
