WHAT'S AHEAD:  Drake closes out its home campaign this weekend hosting a pair of matches at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.  The Bulldogs will be tested by Creighton on Friday (April 22) before facing Wichita State on Saturday (April 23).  Match time versus the Bluejays is slated for 4:00 p.m., while the encounter with the Shockers is slated for 12:00 p.m.

A LOOK BACK: On the strength of its third-straight victory, Drake assured itself of the Bulldogs' first winning campaign since 2006 with a 7-0 decision past Southern Illinois on Sunday (April 17) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. A day earlier, the Bulldogs downed Evansville, 5-2.

With only five available players, the Salukis were behind the eight ball from the start and Drake capitalized clinching the doubles point following an 8-4 triumph by junior Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.) and sophomore Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia) over Melanie Delsart and Jennifer Dien at the No. 1 slot.

With junior Earlynn Lauer (Wichita, Kan.) earning a default victory at the No. 6, the Bulldogs held the early 2-0 advantage before singles officially commenced.  Stretching the lead to 3-0 was junior Jessica Aguilera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia), who bettered Korey Love at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1.

Sealing the deciding tally in the match at the No. 3 slot was freshman Klavdija Rebol (Kranj, Slovenia), who downed Dien, 6-1, 6-4.

The rallies went back-and-forth in the remaining three contests as all were either decided in a second-set tiebreaker or went the full three sets.

After dropping the initial frame, 6-3, at No. 5 against Anastacia Simons, junior Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo.) rallied back to register a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6, triumph, before Krizman bested Delsart at No. 1, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

Demos turned in the most impressive of the final three tilts overcoming a 4-1 second-set deficit to down Anita Lee, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

A YEAR AGO:  Manca Krizman's victory at the top singles position lifted Drake to a 4-3 Missouri Valley Conference victory over Creighton on April 3, 2010.

The Bulldogs found themselves in a hole after coming up short in two of the three doubles contests to drop the point.  Drake's lone victory was courtesy of an 8-2 decision by Krizman and Gabriela Demos at the No. 1 doubles slot versus Sarah and Leesa Cadwallader.

Drake stormed back in singles earning wins at the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 holes to assume a 3-1 lead.  Demos bested Anna Kirshenbaum at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2, before Jessica Aguilera downed Lauren Mastro at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.

Jessica Labarte (Barcelona, Venezuela) registered a 6-3, 6-1 win against Kelsey Schmidt at No. 4.  Creighton squared the affair with triumphs on the Nos. 5 and 6 courts before Krizman pulled out a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Tess Reddin to secure the win.

Wichita State registered a 7-0 victory over the Bulldogs on April 4, 2010.  The Shockers garnered what proved to be the only point they needed in the affair sweeping all three doubles contests to secure the doubles point.

Playing in her hometown, Earlynn Lauer came up just short of extending her contest at the No. 6 position to a third set dropping a 6-1, 7-5 decision to Iasmine Carpen.

UP NEXT: Drake heads to St. Louis, Mo., to compete at the State Farm MVC Championship (April 29 - May 1).
