Johnson Garners Capital One Academic All-America All-District Accolades
DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake women's tennis sophomore Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) garnered recognition for her efforts in the classroom as she was tabbed a first-team Capital One Academic All-America All-District VI At-Large selection.
Boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA, majoring in psychology, Johnson was named a first-team All-MVC performer this spring after registering a 55-17 combined record this season, including a team-high 31-5 singles mark.
She was awarded the MVC Elite 18 Award for women’s tennis and was selected as a first-team All-MVC Scholar-Athlete honoree. Johnson established career highs for singles (31) and doubles (24) victories this year en route to netting a 17-2 singles mark during the spring campaign.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
Johnson advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Award winners will be announced on June 5.
