Drake Falls At Illinois State
NORMAL, Ill. – A day after claiming a 2-1 win at Indiana State in 12 innings the Drake University softball team lost 11-0 at Illinois State on Monday night. The second game scheduled for Monday was cancelled due to inclement weather in the area.
Drake (17-30, 9-13 MVC) allowed four runs in each of the first two innings as Illinois State (25-24, 17-5 MVC), who sits alone atop the league standings, cruised to the victory in five innings.
Senior Amy Pierce (Olathe, Kan.) led the Bulldogs at the plate as she finished with two hits, while Laura Brewer (Waukee, Iowa), Hayley Nybo (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Jordan Gronewold (Carlisle, Iowa) each had one hit.
Drake returns to action Wednesday, April 30 for a non-conference contest at Nebraska Omaha with first pitch set for 6 p.m. The Bulldogs host Bradley this weekend (May 3-4) to close out the regular season conference slate. Drake will honor its five seniors prior to Sunday’s game against the Braves.
