DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake women's soccer team, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Lindsey Horner, has announced its 2014 schedule, one that includes a challenging 19-match slate.

"Our goal when assembling our schedule this fall with a young squad was to find the right balance between challenging opponents and opportunities for our players to grow against quality competition," Horner commented. “I’m optimistic that we have assembled a schedule that will allow our players to compete while preparing for the MVC season.”

A pair of exhibition contests will challenge the Bulldogs in the preseason as Drake visits 2013 NCAA Tournament participant Milwaukee on Aug. 12 before hosting Grand View on Aug. 16 at the Cownie Soccer Complex.

The Bulldogs will attempt to set a new single-game attendance mark against the Vikings as Drake seeks to shatter the previous mark of 807 set versus Minnesota on Aug. 29, 2005.

The Bulldogs officially kick off their 13th intercollegiate campaign traveling to Portland, Oregon to compete against Boise State and Utah Valley State on Aug. 22 and Aug. 24, respectively, at the Portland State Tournament.

Drake returns home the following weekend hosting Saint Louis (Aug. 29) and Fresno State (Aug. 31) during Family Weekend. The contests are the first of eight home games at the Cownie Soccer Complex for the Bulldogs in 2014.

Drake then embarks on a five-game road swing that will see the Bulldogs visit South Dakota State (Sept. 5), former Missouri Valley Conference rival Creighton (Sept. 7), SIU Edwardsville (Sept. 12), Western Illinois (Sept. 14) and Iowa State (Sept. 19).

Drake returns for a three-game homestand welcoming North Dakota State (Sept. 21) and South Dakota (Sept. 24) to the Cownie Soccer Complex before opening conference play against Evansville (Sept. 28). The Bulldogs’ showdown with the Coyotes on Sept. 24 will be the squad’s annual faculty and staff appreciation night.

Drake kicks off October with a pair of conference road dates at Northern Iowa on Oct. 4 and Loyola on Oct. 8 before closing out its non-conference slate hosting Nebraska Omaha on Oct. 12.

Drake concludes its home campaign battling Missouri State on Oct. 18 before meeting defending conference champion Illinois State on Senior Night on Oct. 25.

A road showdown at Indiana State on Oct. 30 draws the Bulldogs’ regular season to a close.

First-round action in the MVC Championship begins at campus sites on Nov. 2 before the final two rounds shift to Normal, Ill., Nov. 7-9.
