DES MOINES, Iowa - A pair of second-half goals propelled the Drake women's soccer team to its fourth-straight victory, 2-0, over Nebraska Omaha (0-7) on Sunday (Sept. 9) at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
Battling through a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs (6-2) staked themselves to a 1-0 lead after a UNO defender knocked a ball into the net at the 55:36 mark for an own goal.
The tally appeared it might hold up as the lone score in the affair, but junior Brittany Schuling (Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar) added an insurance goal in the 86th minute (85:44) to provide the final 2-0 margin.
Drake outshot the Mavericks in the tilt, 16-3, including 9-2 over the final 45 minutes. Schuling and senior Laura Moklestad (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) led the Bulldogs with a game-high four shots apiece, while three different Nebraska Omaha players were credited with a shot.
Junior Kalena Litch (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) moved to within one save of equaling Jenny Schroeder (2006-08) atop Drake's all-time saves list with a two-save performance. Meaghan Clark recorded six stops for the Mavericks.
The Bulldogs' two-goal victory broke a string of 25-straight games since Drake's last triumph decided by more than one tally, a 3-1 win over Green Bay last season.
The Bulldogs continue their seven-game homestand on Friday (Sept. 14) hosting Northern Colorado at 7:00 p.m. at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
