Women's Soccer Adds Boitz And Nelson To 2014 Roster
DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake head women’s soccer coach Lindsey Horner has announced the addition of sophomore forward Ashley Boitz (Ely, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary’s) and junior defender Maddie Nelson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) to the Bulldogs’ roster for the 2014 campaign.
“We are excited for Maddie (Nelson) and Ashley (Boitz) to join our program,” Horner commented. “We have eleven new players joining the team this fall, so it helps that these two are not only talented players, but they are experienced at the DI level. These two have the opportunity to use their experience to impact our program straight away.”
Boitz began her collegiate career at San Jose State where she appeared in 17 games for the Spartans this past season, registering four shots.
“Ashley comes from a very good soccer background at Shattuck St Mary’s, which allowed her to earn time as a freshman last fall at San Jose State,” said Horner. “She is a wide player with the pace, skill, and mentality to create scoring opportunities.”
Nelson comes to Drake after spending her first two seasons at Creighton, where she played in 31 games, including four starts for the Bluejays. She recorded one goal on five shots, while helping Creighton register six shutouts during her two years as a Bluejay.
“Maddie has competed in the MVC and will look to compete for time with us as a left back,” Horner explained. “Maddie is left footed, technically capable, physical defender that will add depth to our back line.”
Boitz and Nelson will have three and two seasons of eligibility, respectively, with the Bulldogs.
