Indiana State Registers 4-0 Triumph Past Drake In MVC Championship Semifinals
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A pair of goals in each half lifted Indiana State (10-8) to a 4-0 victory past Drake (3-12-5) in women’s soccer semifinal action at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Friday (Nov. 8).
“We had a great start and easily could have been up 2-0 after 10 minutes,” Bulldog head coach Lindsey Horner commented. “Indiana State responded and when they did they proved why they were the No. 2 seed. If we had scored it would have been a different game. Overall, it was a disappointing end to a frustrating season. Our program is grateful for our seniors and their impact over the last four seasons.”
Taylor Reed scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Sycamores at the 29:17 mark.
Abby Reed extended Indiana State’s advantage to 2-0 on the strength of her 10th goal of the season in the 31st minute (30:20). Kate Johnson was credited with the assist on the tally.
The Sycamores outshot the Bulldogs in the initial stanza, 12-5, including 8-3 on goal.
Indiana State added goals in the 59th (58:15) and 62nd minutes (61.29), respectively, to complete its 4-0 triumph.
The Sycamores posted a 22-11 margin in shots in the affair, including 15-5 on goal. A game-high four-shot effort paced Indiana State, while sophomore Rhian Pritchard (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North) led Drake with a team-high three shots.
Junior goalkeeper Andrea Swanson (Clive, Iowa/Valley) pulled in eight saves for the Bulldogs before giving way to senior goalkeeper Kalena Litch (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), who posted two stops. Brittany San Roman was credited with five saves for Indiana State.
The setback drew to a close Drake’s 2013 campaign.
