A LOOK BACK
Fueled by a career-low 74, sophomore Danielle Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.) collected a top-five finish to propel Drake in final-day competition at the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout hosted by Oral Roberts on Oct. 2 at the Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
Brooks was the catalyst for the Bulldogs over the final 18 holes firing a 74 to conclude the tournament as Drake's top finisher (T-5th) with a 226 (77-75-74=226) score.
Drake carded a final-round 324 to post a 54-hole mark of 958 (313-321-324=958) to finish 11th among the 13 competing squads.
Junior Hadley Jennings (Trenton, Mo.) was unable to keep her string of rounds in the 70's intact posting an 83 to register a 234 (74-77-83=234) total, good for a 17th-place tie.
Senior Chelsey Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) was off to a strong start for the Bulldogs before difficulties with her lie on a hole on the back nine resulted in a final-round 82. She concluded the tournament with a 54-hole total of 240 (77-81-82=240), to finish tied for 34th place.
Freshman Katie Clausen (Hinton, Iowa) and sophomore Ashley Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.) wrapped up competition carding tournament scores of 264 (91-88-85=264) and 266 (85-96-85=266) to place 70th and 71st, respectively.
DRAKE RESULTS: Danielle Brooks (77-75-74=226/T-5th), Hadley Jennings (74-77-83=234/T-17th), Chelsey Falk (77-81-82=240/T-34th), Katie Clausen (91-88-85=264/70th) and Ashley Brooks (85-96-85=266/71st)
DRAKE HEAD COACH LEANNE SMITH
Leanne Smith is in her third season as head women's golf coach for the Bulldogs after serving as an assistant coach with the Drake men's and women's golf programs from 2006-2010.
This past season, Drake turned in top-10 finishes in six of its 10 tournament appearances. Smith guided the Bulldogs through a spring campaign in which Drake was challenged by injuries, including its top-scoring individual, freshman Kimmy Askelson, who was lost due to injury.
Askelson directed the Bulldogs with a team-low 79.7 scoring average in 12 rounds, while sophomore Hadley Jennings turned in an 80.1 average in 28 rounds.
In her initial campaign leading the Drake program, Smith guided the Bulldogs to four top-six finishes, including three during the spring season.
The Bulldogs close out their fall campaign competing at the Florida International Pat Bradley Invitational (Oct. 22-23) in Tampa, Fla.
