DEKALB, Ill. — Freshman Mariel Fulton (Lousiville, Colo.) finished in 117th place to lead the Bulldog contingent at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday.
Fulton completed the 6,000-meter course in 23:16.90 and was the top finisher representing the Bulldogs. Drake had only three runners in the race, all freshmen, and did not qualify for a team score.
Freshman Melissa Parks (Norfolk, Neb.) capped off her freshman campaign crossing the line in 23:29.87 to finish in 128th place.
Rounding out the Bulldog squad was Krista Maguire (Wausau, Wis.), who earned a 144th-place showing clocking in at 23:52.34.
189 runners from 33 schools competed at the Northern Illinois North 40 Course. Iowa State won the meet with a team score of 64 while Oklahoma State was second racking in 119 points. Both squads will advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 21.
This marks the final meet this year for a young Bulldog squad that lost four seniors from last year’s squad.
“Our squad went up against a few nationally ranked teams and competed well,” commented head coach Dan Hostager. “It was a great experience for our freshmen.”
