DeLand, Fla. – The Drake University rowing closed its week of spring break training in Florida with several head-to-head races with Jacksonville University and Stetson University today on a 2,000 meter course on Lake Beresford in DeLand, Fla.

“It was a good week down here for us,” said head coach Charlie DiSilvestro. “You never complain about getting water time after a long winter. Today the racing was good. We made a couple of adjustments after the first eight race and improved in the second race. I was happy to see that.”

Today’s competition in the Sunshine State kicks off a busy stretch for the Bulldogs, who will race every weekend from here on out as they work towards the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, April 26 on Lake Mercer in Princeton, N.J.

Drake travels next weekend (Saturday, March 29) to Lawrence, Kan., where it will square off with SMU in the morning. The Bulldogs will then race either Kansas or Kansas State in the afternoon.

It’s going to be a busy stretch of racing for us for the next month or so,” commented DiSilvestro. “We need the race experience. We learn the most when we are out on the water and not stuck inside. Hopefully the weather, especially the temperature cooperates for us back in Des Moines so we can get out on the water consistently.”

The Bulldogs will host their annual spring regatta on Saturday, April 19 on the Des Moines River.
