Rowing Continues Training In Tulsa, Oklahoma
TULSA, Okla. – The Drake University and the University of Tulsa rowing teams continue to train with each other this week in Tulsa during the Bulldogs’ annual spring break trip to a warm-weather site.
The two teams competed in various, timed scrimmage segments Tuesday night in four and eight-crew boats. All week, Tulsa has allowed Drake to practice on the water, something the Bulldogs haven’t been able to do for some time in Des Moines due to the weather and water conditions on the Des Moines River.
“I’m happy with our progress so far this week,” Drake head coach Charlie DiSilvestro said. “It’s been great being able to be out on the water for training. The team is making progress as we continue to move closer to our first races in a few weeks.”
Drake will practice again Friday with Tulsa before wrapping up the week with another series of exhibition races Saturday morning before the team returns to Des Moines.
The Bulldogs open the spring season with the varsity crew heading to the Shelton Invitational on April 6-7 in Shelton, Conn., while the junior varsity/novice crew travels to the Upper Midwest Championship in Omaha, Neb. on April 7.
