Track Off To Hot Start At Jim Duncan Invite
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake track and field team, in its first home meet of the outdoor campaign, opened its weekend with a number of strong performances at the Jim Duncan Invitational on Friday, April 13.
Sophomore Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa) was second in the men's 5,000-meters crossing the line in 14:35.84. Freshman Conor Wells (Des Moines, Iowa) nabbed fourth in 14:47.36, while sophomore Doug Brady (Cherry Creek, Colo.) was ninth in 15:06.42.
Sophomore Alex Kaster (Omaha, Neb.) soared 44 feet 4 inches to finish second in the men's triple jump.
Fellow sophomore Ryan Flynn (Bettendorf, Iowa) snared second place in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 9:31.80.
On the women's side, freshman Mariel Fulton (Louisville, Colo.), in her first collegiate race at the Blue Oval, was fourth in the 5,000-meters in 18:14.20. Sophomore Erin Poss (Antioch, Ill.) was seventh with a time of 18:34.85.
"I'm proud of the way our kids competed tonight," commented distance coach Dan Hostager. "Ryan Flynn had a nice personal best in the steeplechase and we had quite a few personal records in both of the 5,000-meter races, which were held in windy conditions."
Competition for the second day of the Jim Duncan Invitational is set to begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. Live results of the meet will be available on GoDrakeBulldogs.com.
