Goodman Selected As MVC Scholar-Athlete Of The Week
ST LOUIS, Mo. - Drake men's tennis senior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) and Anna Munn of Indiana State have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced on Wednesday (Jan. 22). Goodman and Munn were honored for their performances during the period of January 13-20.
Now in its 15th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
Goodman, who maintains a 3.55 cumulative grade-point average in business management, directed the 30th-rated Bulldogs to a 2-1 mark last week en route to registering a 4-2 combined singles/doubles ledger, including a 3-0 record in singles to extend his regular season winning streak to 14.
In Drake’s 4-3 victory past Northern Illinois last Friday (Jan. 17), Goodman sparked a comeback for the Bulldogs posting a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the No. 4 singles slot. He followed by dispatching 71st-rated Carlos Bautista at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4 to net Drake’s lone singles triumph at No. 25 Tulsa on Sunday (Jan. 19). Goodman capped his weekend against SMU on Monday (Jan. 20) garnering the doubles tally with junior Ravi Patel (London, England) at No. 1, 6-1, before registering a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
On the season, Goodman sports a 14-7 combined singles/doubles ledger, including a 3-0 record in singles during the dual campaign.
To qualify for MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
