Three Bulldogs Earn All-MVC Scholar-Athlete Honors

WICHITA, Kan. - The Drake men's tennis team garnered a trio of selections for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, the league announced on Thursday (April 25).

Drake junior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) and sophomore Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) earned first-team accolades for the first time, while senior Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) was tabbed to the Scholar-Athlete honorable mention squad.

A native of Cambridge, England, Goodman owns a 3.52 grade-point average in business management and maintains a team-best 62-14 combined singles/doubles record.  Currently nationally-ranked in singles, he leads Drake with a 35-4 singles mark, including 19-2 in the spring and 4-0 in the MVC, while ranking second in doubles wins with 27.  He is riding an 11-match singles winning streak heading into the MVC Championship and is 86-13 for his career in singles.

A native of Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Salibasic boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA and maintains a 54-22 combined singles/doubles record this season.  His 32 singles victories are second-best on the squad, while ranking second in overall triumphs (54) and third in doubles wins (22).

A native of Windhoek, Namibia, Erasmus sports 3.24 GPA in health science and has garnered a 51-19 combined singles/doubles record this season, including a 24-6 mark in singles.  He is tied for ninth all-time at Drake with 176 victories.

To be eligible for nominations to the MVC Scholar-Athlete teams, nominees must own a cumulative GPA of 3.20 based on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or important reserve and have played in at least 75 percent of its team's matches. Student-athletes also must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and have completed at least one full academic year at their respective institution.

The top-seeded Bulldogs (23-2) open play at the MVC Championship on Saturday (April 27) in Wichita, Kan., against the winner of the No. 4 Illinois State/No. 5 Bradley match at 10:00 a.m.
