DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake men's tennis team opened its fall campaign capturing a pair of doubles titles in first-day competition at the Drake Fall Invitational on Friday (Sept. 21) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

"Today was good way to start our fall season," Drake head men's tennis coach Davidson Kozlowski commented.  "I think that doubles is often viewed as the lighter side of tennis, less nerves since you have a partner on court with you.  So, it was a fun way for the guys to get on the courts in a competitive situation and get some of their pre-season nerves out."

"Having several new teams out there it was impressive that we were able to win two of the three flights.  I saw some very good things from our lone freshman, Ben Lott.  He faced a several match points in his first match and I thought he handled them extremely well (hitting an ace on one and then a brilliant backhand volley winner on the next), impressive from the freshman."

In the 'A' doubles draw, the tandem of senior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) and junior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England), who were a late addition to the tournament, posted three wins to claim the title with an 8-4 decision past Chase Tomlins and Joey White of Iowa.

The championship is the second Drake Fall Invitational doubles crown for Ghorbel and first in the career of Goodman.

The Drake duo of senior James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland) and sophomore Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) provided the Bulldogs their second title on the strength of a 3-0 record in the 'C' doubles flight.

McKie and Salibasic earned the championship dispatching Marcel Gyswyt and Logan Peterson of Gustavus Adolphus, 8-2.  It marked the second career Drake Fall Invitational doubles titles for both McKie and Salibasic.

Singles action gets underway starting at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 22) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
