Men's Tennis Releases 2014 Spring Schedule
DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake head men's tennis coach Davidson Kozlowski has announced a challenging 24-match schedule for 2014 that includes as many as 11 teams which qualified for the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
“This Drake team has another challenging, but very exciting schedule ahead of them this upcoming season," Kozlowski commented. "With 14 nationally-ranked opponents lined up they will consistently be seeing the best teams and players in the country. I especially am looking forward to the start of our season with matches against No. 25 Tulsa and No. 29 Auburn. It is an extremely tough way to start the campaign, but it will be a great indicator of how well we prepared during the fall season.”
The Bulldogs get their spring underway hosting Northern Illinois at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center on Jan. 17, 2014.
Drake visits No. 25 Tulsa on Jan. 19 before a trip to Waco, Texas, to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-off Weekend. The Bulldogs open versus No. 29 Auburn on Jan. 25, before battling either No. 12 Baylor or No. 46 Boise State on Jan. 26.
The home campaign resumes on Feb. 8 as the Bulldogs host UMKC and Green Bay. The Kangaroos were a 2013 NCAA Tournament participant.
Another challenge awaits when Drake visits Madison, Wis., to battle SMU and No. 65 Wisconsin on Feb. 14 and 15, respectively.
The Bulldogs then square off against No. 33 Minnesota, a 2013 NCAA Tournament participant, on Feb. 22 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Drake returns to the Roger Knapp Tennis Center for matches on Feb. 26 versus Graceland and in-state rival Iowa.
Seven straight road matches follow, starting with a visit to Lincoln, Neb., to play No. 75 Utah on March 8 and No. 62 Nebraska on March 9.
The Bulldogs visit Atlanta, Ga., for consecutive matches against ranked opponents on March 16 and 17, facing No. 72 New Mexico and No. 61 Georgia State.
Drake then jets west to compete in three contests at the San Diego Spring Classic (March 20-22). The eight-team event includes; No. 28 Harvard, No. 20 Memphis, No. 58 Denver, No. 70 Purdue, No. 51 Princeton, No. 40 San Diego and No. 49 San Diego State.
The Bulldogs battle St. John’s in the first of two matches on April 4 before later in the day kicking off their MVC slate against Southern Illinois.
Drake closes its non-conference ledger entertaining Denver, a 2013 NCAA Tournament qualifier, on April 6.
Road conference tests at Illinois State (April 12) and Bradley (April 13) follow before the Bulldogs close their league schedule hosting No. 63 Wichita State on April 18.
Drake will attempt to capture the MVC Tournament crown when the league title is up for grabs in Normal, Ill. (April 25-27).
