Seven Bulldogs Honored With All-MVC Men's Soccer Accolades

PEORIA, Ill. - Led by senior Nick Marshall (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) and redshirt sophomore Alec Bartlett (Overland Park, Kan./St. James Academy) who were selected as first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer selections, seven Drake student-athletes garnered All-MVC accolades as announced by the league on Thursday (Nov. 14).

Senior Bryan Jantsch (Mission Hills, Kan./Rockhurst), redshirt junior Jarred Arde (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) and freshman Mueng Sunday (Coralville, Iowa/Iowa City West) were tabbed second-team selections. Redshirt freshmen Ben LeMay (Hugo, Minn./Saint Thomas Academy) and Darrin MacLeod (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) along with Sunday were recognized as all-freshman team recipients.

An All-Freshman team honoree in 2010, Marshall has started all 19 games for Drake this season, registering a team-high four goals, while ranking second in points (10) and third in shots on goal (11) and contributing a pair of assists.  He has helped anchor a defensive unit that has posted five shutouts this season and 13 for his career.

Marshall finished the conference campaign rated seventh and ninth, respectively, in goals (0.33) and points (0.67) per contest.

Bartlett stepped into the Bulldogs’ rotation immediately on the defensive backline last year as a freshman and has started all 38 games of his Drake career, including 19 starts this fall. He owns a goal and an assist this season on 11 shots and has sparked the Bulldogs to five shutouts.

A starter in all 19 games this season, Jantsch leads Drake in assists (4), shots (31) and shots on goal (12), while ranking second and third, respectively, in points (10) and goals (3).  He enters tournament play rated seventh in the MVC in assists per game (0.21).

In conference-only affairs, Jantsch led the league in assists per tilt (0.67), while finishing ninth in points per game (0.67).

Turning in a break-out campaign this fall to garner All-MVC honors for the first time is Arde, who paces the Bulldogs in goals (4), points (11), shots (31) and game-winning goals (2), while ranking second in assists (3) and third in shots on goal (10).  He completed the conference campaign rated third in the league in game-winning goals (0.20).

Providing a dynamic foundation for the Drake midfield as a freshman was Sunday, who started all 19 games for the Bulldogs, registering an assist on eight shots.

After redshirting a season ago, LeMay stepped into the Drake line-up this fall and has started 17 of the 19 contests he has appeared in. He ranks second on the squad in assists (3) and fourth in shots (21), while contributing a goal.

MacLeod garnered his first career start versus DePaul and has not looked back starting 14 of the 16 games he has played in this fall en route to recording 69 saves, five shutouts and a 1.03 goals against average.

He is second, third and fourth, respectively, in the conference in save percentage (.821), goals against average and saves per game (4.31). In league-only affairs, he paced the conference in saves (5.83) per game, while rating third in save percentage (.854) and fourth in goals against average (0.93).  Nationally, MacLeod is ranked ranks 28th in save percentage, 52nd in total saves, 67th in goals against average and 68th in saves per game.

He enters tournament action sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth on the Drake single-season record book in goals against average, shutouts (5), wins (8) and saves (69).

Drake (8-7-4) returns to action on Friday (Nov. 15) as the second-seeded Bulldogs face third-seeded Bradley in the semifinals of the MVC Championship. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
