Four Bulldogs Collect All-MVC Men's Soccer Accolades

PEORIA, Ill. - Led by senior Michael Thaden (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley), who was chosen as a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer selection, four Drake student-athletes garnered All-MVC accolades as announced by the league on Thursday (Nov. 8).

Redshirt junior Rich Gallagher (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and junior Addison Eck (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) were tabbed honorable mention selections, while redshirt freshman Alec Bartlett (Overland Park, Kan./St. James Academy) was recognized as an all-freshman team recipient.

A second-team honoree as a junior in 2010, Thaden has started all 20 games for Drake, registering team highs in goals (6), points (14), shots (47) and game-winners (2).  He also has contributed a pair of assists this season.

Thaden is ranked fifth, seventh and eighth in the MVC, respectively, in goals (0.30), points (0.75) and shots (2.35) per game.  In conference-only tilts, he finished third, third, fourth, seventh and eighth in game-winning goals (0.17), goals per game (0.33), points per match (0.83), shot per contest (2.50) and assists per game (0.17).

Gallagher fashioned together a strong league campaign this season registering three shutouts in six conference games, including against No. 12 Creighton on Sept. 29.

He leads the MVC in saves per game (5.65), while ranking fourth in shutouts (0.20) and fifth in save percentage (.774).  In league-only affairs, he paced the conference in saves (7.33) and shutouts (0.50) per game, while rating third in save percentage (.863) and fifth in goals against average (1.07).  Nationally, Gallagher is ranked fourth and 15th in total saves (113) and saves per game (5.65).

Turning in a break-out campaign this fall to garner All-MVC honors for the first time is Eck, who paces the Bulldogs in assists (3) and shots on goal (15), while ranking second in goals (5), points (13), shots (29) and game-winners (1).

Eck is ranked ninth the in the conference in both goals (0.25) and points (0.65) per game, while finishing third, fourth, eighth and eighth, respectively, in league-only games in goals (0.33), points (0.83), assists (0.17) and shots (2.17) per contest.

Bartlett stepped into the Drake rotation immediately on the defensive backline having started all 18 games in which he has appeared in, registering five shots while helping lead the Bulldogs to four shutouts, including three in conference action.

Drake (6-10-4) returns to action on Friday (Nov. 9) as the Bulldogs battle top-seeded Creighton in the semifinals of the MVC Championship. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
