"We got off to a rough start as a team and battled the storm per say giving ourselves plenty of chances in perfect conditions, we just weren't able to capitalize on our putts," Bulldog head coach Matt Lewis commented. "As a whole, we didn't have anything bad happen in our rounds but we weren't able to put together the rounds we're capable of."
"It was a good ball-striking day for us and our wedges were really solid, but we missed a couple of close shots really hurt our score. All we can do is give ourselves chances tomorrow to grab a low score, which I know is out there for us."
Redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) directed Drake's efforts on the day posting rounds of 74 and 73 for a 147 total, a mark which is tied for 20th.
Junior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) finished two strokes off his pace with a 149 (74-76=149) total, which placed him tied for 29th.
In his first competition of the fall, sophomore Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) registered a 151 (76-75) score and is tied for 44th.
"Dane was excited to get back on the course today and he admittedly was a little anxious at the start of his round," said Lewis. "He was a little inconsistent today more from a lack of competition and playing this fall, but he had some birdies and finished the round on a good note."
The Bulldogs close out competition at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Oct. 16). Tee times off the first and 10th holes are still being set.
