DALLAS, Texas -Tyler Moorehead, a fifth-year senior on the Drake University football team, has been named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for their performance on and off the field.

Moorehead, a linebacker, is currently enrolled in Drake's pharmacy program with a 3.58 grade point average and is on-track to receive his doctorate in pharmacy. He is one of 147 candidates to be nominated for the award that honors seniors with a 3.2 GPA or higher who have demonstrated outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor, and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.

On the field, he has played in and started every game of his collegiate career while earning first team all-Pioneer Football League honors each of the last two seasons after being named the league's freshman defensive player of the year. He has made 165 solo tackles in his career with 44 tackles for loss and is currently seventh in the nation in sacks this season. He has led Drake's defense each of the last two seasons and was voted a team captain by his peers prior to the start of the 2012 campaign.

"This year's candidates truly embody the National Football Foundation's mission of building leaders through football," NFF Chairman Archie Manning said. "They are standouts in the classroom and on the field and have become leaders in their respective communities. Each school should take great pride in being represented by such well-rounded young men who will undoubtedly go on to do great things in life."

The NFF Awards Committee will select up to 16 Campbell Trophy finalists on Oct. 25 and each finalist will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. Each member of the 2012 National Scholar-Athlete Class will also travel to New York City to be honored Dec. 4 during the 55th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria where their accomplishments will be highlighted. One member of the class will also be announced live at the event as the winner of the Campbell Trophy.
