ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Drake men's cross country sophomores Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) and Doug Brady (Englewood, Colo.), along with senior Colin Hagan (Wichita, Kan.) were named to the 2011 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team the league announced today (Nov. 1).

This marks the first time that each of the student-athletes has made the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.

Austin, who holds a 3.37 grade point average in math education, won the State Farm MVC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 30 crossing the line in 25:15.0 becoming the first Drake runner since Bobby Anderson since 2004 to take home the individual title.

Brady, a marketing and accounting major who owns a 3.52 GPA, finished 11th at the MVC Cross Country Championship with a personal best of 25:31.6 after winning the Grand View Invitational earlier this year.

An economics major with a 3.25 GPA, Hagan finished in 14th-place at the conference meet clocking in at 25:45.5. He was also selected to the 2010-11 MVC Academic Honor Roll.

"Our team takes great pride in their academic achievement and its a very dedicated group," commented head coach Dan Hostager. "Drake's outstanding educational environment is why they're here so its nice to see them get recognized for all of their hard work in and out of the classroom."

Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to meet performance standards, as they must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic- and academic-standing to earn a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
