Two days before the Drake fans get their first look at the 2012-13 men’s basketball team at Prime Time Preview, the Bulldogs continued their practices in preparation for the upcoming season.
Thanks to fall break at Drake University, the squad has had the luxury of devoting its near undivided attention to basketball.
“For the last couple of days, it’s been all basketball,” senior forward Ben Simons said. “It’s nice to just be able to focus on one thing, come into the gym, get your treatments, stay healthy and just play basketball.”
That ability to focus on practice is critically important, especially for the team’s newcomers.
“For the new guys, a lot of stuff is coming at them really quick,” Simons said. “They need to pick that up quick and move on to other things. But as far as how the first week has gone, it’s been a good week.”
Simons and his teammates will hit the court with an audience on Thursday evening for the team’s Prime Time Preview at the Knapp Center. Doors to the Knapp Center open at 6 p.m. with both the men’s and women’s teams signing autographs before action begins at 7 p.m. In addition to various contests and team scrimmages, Drake students will also be eligible to win prizes such as a flat-screen television, an iPad and free burritos for a semester from Qdoba.
