Fitness Testing

Designed for the individual who would like to begin an exercise program or evaluate their current program. The test will include an initial assessment of cardiovascular endurance, body fat, muscular strength/endurance and flexibility.

Exercise Program Design

Through an individual consultation, our wellness staff will design an exercise program to meet your personal fitness goals.

Nutritional Analysis

With the use of a nutrition software, we can conduct a complete nutrient analysis of the foods you eat and the problem areas in your diet.

MOVE MORE with Drake Group Exercise     NEW Fall 2009 Schedule!

Attend 20 group exercise classes this semester and receive a t-shirt. One lucky participant will receive an iPod Touch.  All classes are designed so you can work at your own intensity level. Join us for a great workout and a lot of fun! No pre-registration necessary.

GROUP EXERCISE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Muscle Mix: Sculpt muscle groups using a variety of equipment such as dumbbells, stability balls, and body bars.

Awesome Abs: Feel the burn in this 15-minute class targeted to strengthen your abdominal muscles.

Bootcamp: Choreography not your thing? This class kicks you into shape with high intensity drills and stations.

Power Yoga: Active and flowing yoga that incorporates light hand weights for additional toning.

Yoga: A total mind-body workout that integrates functional strength, flexibility, muscle balance and relaxation.

Pilates: Increase flexibility and strengthen your core (abdomen, lower back and glutes) in this no impact class.

Core Conditioning: Feel your core burn using BOSU Ballast Balls, BOSU Balance Board, medicine balls and more!

Step & Sculpt: Get a great workout on the step followed by muscle toning.

Step Express: Looking for a shorter workout? Step Express will give you a great workout in just 30 minutes.

CardioKick: Work up a sweat by kicking, blocking, and punching your way through class.

ChoreoKick: This class incorporates kickboxing plus fun choreography that will get your heart racing.

H20 Aerobics: Improve cardio endurance and tone your muscles in this no-impact water class.

Deep H20 Extreme: Increase your heart rate by getting an intense workout in the deep end of the pool

 

 Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Where is class located? Fitness classes are held in the Bell Center Multi-Purpose Room.
  • How much does it cost to participate? All group fitness classes are free!
  • I've never taken group exercise before.  Will I be able to participate?  Definitely!  Anyone is welcome to attend class as each class can be modified to your level of experience.
Swimming For Fitness

Do you want to start swimming but are unsure of how to get started? Do you enjoy swimming but are looking for variety in your workout? If so, sign up for Swimming for Fitness. This class is FUN and FREE! A group exercise instructor with a swimming background will lead you through intense workouts in the water every Tuesday morning from 6:45-7:30. Class size is limited to ten participants, so registration is required. Please email Johanna Determann at johanna.determann@drake.edu to sign up for this class. Class begins September 8th and goes through December 1st.

S.H.A.P.E. PROGRAM - Supporting Health Activity and Promoting Exercise
This program will help you monitor and log your activity. S.H.A.P.E. allows you to receive rewards for all levels of activity including cardiovascular exercise, sporting activities, wellness programs and even household activities. Exercise logs can be filled out on hard copy or you can log your minutes online. Visit www.drake.edu/wellness/SHAPE/amtoftime.html to fill out your minutes online. Contact the Wellness Center for information.

WELLNESS LIBRARY
Drake Wellness has a variety of wellness-related books, relaxing audiotapes and exercise videos available for you to check out for two weeks at a time. Stop by the Wellness Center to borrow a book from the library. The Wellness Center will also deliver!

10,000 STEPS PUNCH CARD
Already taking 10,000 steps daily? This program is for you! For each day that you take at least 10,000 steps, you will check off one star on a 14 week punch card. When the card is complete, return it to the Wellness Center. For more information and a punch card contact the Wellness Center.  Fee: FREE
