Hawley Named to MVC Most-Improved Team
SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Drake senior Aaron Hawley (Rogers, Ark.) has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball Most-Improved Team, the league office announced Wednesday morning.
The team, selected by the league’s media, honors student-athletes who have made significant strides in their on-court contributions for their respective teams.
Hawley earned the honor following a year away from the program. Upon rejoining the Bulldogs, the 6-8 forward/guard has averaged 10.3 points per game and hit his stride in MVC play by averaging 12.2 points per game. Prior to this season, Hawley averaged 5.6 points per game in his career and 6.4 points per game in 2011-12.
During conference play, Hawley shot 50 percent from the field and made 45 of his 90 three-point shots to become one of the most dangerous three-point shooters in the league ranking second in MVC games in both three-point percentage and three-pointers per game. His 157 career three-pointers are the most by an active MVC player and he ranks seventh all-time in Drake history.
Hawley and his teammates begin tournament play on Thursday evening with the opening game of Arch Madness at St. Louis’ Scottrade Center. The eighth-seeded Bulldogs begin the tournament on Thursday, March 6 against ninth-seeded Evansville at 6:05 p.m.
