No. 24 Arkansas Rallies To Knock Off Drake
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 24 Arkansas Razorbacks rallied for a 10-6 win over the Drake University softball team on Friday night at the Woo Pig Fastpitch Classic.
Drake (3-14) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning behind a two-run single from freshman Megan Sowa (Gurnee, Ill.). Laura Brewer (Waukee, Iowa) drove home Sowa with a single for the final run in the frame.
Arkansas (14-3) answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to move in front 4-3. The Razorbacks tallied five hits and took advantage of a Drake error in the big inning.
Freshman Kaitlyn Finneran (Morrison, Ill.) evened the game in the fourth inning with an RBI single, which scored Sarah Ryan (Mount Vernon, Iowa). Arkansas roared back in its next at-bat taking a 7-4 lead. The Razorbacks added three runs in the sixth inning.
The Bulldogs scored two runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Razorbacks pulled out the victory. Brewer had an RBI double in the inning.
Sowa led Drake at the plate going 3-for-4 along with two runs and two RBI, while Brewer finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Ryan was 1-for-2 with two runs and two walks.
Rebekah Schmidt (Cottage Grove, Minn.) pitched six innings and allowed eight earned runs on 14 hits. Schmidt took the loss as her record falls to 3-8 on the season.
Drake is back in action Saturday with a 9 a.m. matchup with Stephen F. Austin. In the afternoon, the Bulldogs close out the tournament in either the third-place game or the championship game at 2:30 p.m. or 5 p.m., respectively.
