ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A program-record 62 Drake University football student-athletes have been named to the Pioneer Football League Academic Honor Roll, the league announced Thursday.

Drake’s 62 honorees were the second most in the PFL behind Dayton’s 71 selections. In all, 470 PFL student-athletes earned the honor.

Following Dayton and Drake in total number of honorees was Butler (61) Davidson (59), San Diego (45), Jacksonville (45), Morehead (43), Campbell (42), Valparaiso (30) and Marist (22).

PFL athletic directors and coaches established the honor roll as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in football at member institutions during the fall semester and posted a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the semester while enrolled full-time in accordance with NCAA rules.

Under head coach Chris Creighton, Drake has set program records for honorees each of the last two seasons with 61 earning the designation last season and has seen a consistent increase in the number of honorees each of the last four seasons.
