MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Drake men's tennis team registered a 9-4 combined singles/doubles ledger, including an 8-1 mark in singles, on the opening day of the Gopher Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday (Nov. 2).
Senior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) led the charge in singles besting 87th-rated Rok Bonin of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-4.
Drake also garnered singles triumphs from seniors James McKie (Edinburgh Scotland) and Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia), junior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England), sophomores Ben Mullis (Leicestershire, England), Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) and Grant Tesmer (Lincoln, Neb.) and freshman Ben Lott (Newcastle, England).
In doubles, the duo of Erasmus and Goodman claimed the Bulldogs lone triumph besting Max Krammer and Jens Vorkefeld of Denver, 8-5.
Drake continues tournament play battling players from DePaul and Nebraska on Saturday (Nov. 3).
