DeGrave, Lapham Selected to USTFCCCA All-Academic List
A total of 431 men and women were selected for the award this year. The honor goes to athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the track.
DeGrave, originally a walk-on, was selected for the third consecutive year. He finished his excellent Drake career at the NCAA West regional where he reached the semifinals in his signature event, the 400-meter hurdles, in a time of 52.55.
The highlight of DeGrave's year, however, was his victory in the 400-meter hurdles at the MVC Outdoor Championships. He became only the fourth athlete to win three consecutive titles in the event in a time of 51.80.
DeGrave showed showed his versatility throughout the season, winning the 200-meter dash at the Messersmith Invitational hosted by Northern Iowa.
Lapham, a rising senior, had an impressive 2012 campaign finishing as the runner-up in the 1500-meters at the MVC Outdoor Championship (3:58.30) and fifth in the mile at the MVC Indoor Championship (4:16.19). He ran a personal best of 3:46.79 in the 1500 on May 4 at the Arkansas Twilight.
Lapham also reached the NCAA West preliminaries where he finished just outside of the next round in the 1500. He'll look to improve on all of his times in his final season as a Bulldog. It was Lapham's first selection to the All-Academic list.
Tulsa's Chris O'Hare (track) and Duke's Curtis Beach (field) were selected as the Indoor Athlete's of the year. Stanford's Amaechi Morton (track) and Virginia Tech's Alexander Ziegler (field) were both named Outdoor Athlete's of the year for the second consecutive year.
