DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake head women's tennis coach Paul Thomson has announced the signing of high school standouts Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif./Arlington), Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif./Palm Desert) and Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) to a national letters of intent to join the Bulldog program for the 2012-13 academic year.

"Replacing five graduating players is going to be a tough task at any program, however these three young women are a great start to the 2012 recruiting class," Thomson commented.  "We are very enthusiastic about these student-athletes. All three are very talented hard-working players on and off of the court. More importantly, they fit perfectly with the character and quality of the young women that we have in the program. They are going to be great additions to continuing the tennis tradition here at Drake."

A two-time all-conference selection at Arlington High School, Ante bypassed her final two seasons of high school competition to concentrate on expanding her game at the regional level.  She was ranked among the top-30 in both singles and doubles in the United State Tennis Association (USTA) Southern California sectionals.  As a junior, Ante was the top-rated singles player in the USTA Girls' 18 Southern California Satellite Circuit.

A member of two state championship teams at Palm Desert High School, Eggleston was a three-time doubles finalist in the Desert Valley League, including capturing the title as a senior.  She was also a finalist for the singles crown as a junior.

A four-time all-state selection at Onalaska High School, Johnson was tabbed the Mississippi Valley Conference's Player of the Year in each of her final three prep campaigns and led the Hilltoppers to four league titles.  Tabbed a first team All-MVC selection in each of her four seasons, she finished her prep career with a 121-8 singles mark en route to a pair of state runner-up finishes in singles play.

Ante, Eggleston and Johnson own rankings of 182, 161 and 114, respectively, by TennisRecruiting.net in the National 18's rankings.

Ante, Eggleston and Johnson are the first student-athletes to sign a national letter of intent with Thomson and the Bulldogs for the 2012-13 campaign.
