Lahart Named 2011 Preseason Player To Watch By CFPA
DES MOINES, Iowa--Drake's Michael Lahart has earned preseason recognition from the College Football Performance Awards as a punt returner.
The fifth-year senior defensive back and return specialist was named by the organization as a Division I FCS player to watch in 2011.
The College Football Performance Awards strive to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football, according to information on their official website. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the effectiveness of their teams.
Lahart, a graduate of Chariton (Iowa) High School, started all 11 games in 2010 and earned honorable mention All-Pioneer Football League honors as both a cornerback and return specialist. He also earned first-team Academic All-Pioneer Football League honors.
Lahart ranked third on the team in 2010 with 51.5 tackles, and had one interception and 11 pass breakups. He has led the Pioneer Football League in punt-return average each of the past two seasons (13.5 in 2010; 10.6 in '09). In his career, Lahart has been part of touchdowns scored via five different methods: Interception return (2010), punt return (2010), blocked kick return (2009), rush (2008) and pass (2008).
The Bulldogs open the 2011 season Sept. 1 at North Dakota. The home opener is Saturday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. vs. Grand View at Drake Stadium. Tickets may be purchased by calling (515) 271-DOGS or online at www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com.
