DES MOINES, Iowa--Two Drake football players have earned preseason recognition from the College Football Performance Awards.
Fifth-year senior kicker/punter Billy Janssen and senior quarterback Mike Piatkowski have been named in recent weeks by the organization as Division I FCS players to watch in 2011 at their respective positions. Janssen's recognition is for his punting.
The College Football Performance Awards strive to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football, according to information on their official website. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the effectiveness of their teams.
Janssen in 2010 averaged 38.2 yards on 55 punts, with a long of 67. He placed 12 punts inside the 20 against seven touchbacks, and had eight punts of 50 yards or longer.
Piatkowski threw for 1,854 yards and 15 touchdowns with just seven interceptions in 10 starts last year. He completed 58% of his passes and compiled a 126.7 efficiency rating.
