DES MOINES, IOWA -- Former Drake standout golfer Olivia Lansing has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur championship for the third straight year.
Lansing was one of 156 players who earned a berth through sectional qualifying at 18 sites across the country.
Lansing, who was named the 2009 and 2010 Missouri Valley Conference women's golfer of the year, finished second in Sectional Qualifying at the Minikahada Club in Minneapolis, Minn., July 6, shooting a 75.
The U.S. Women's Amateur will be held Aug. 9-15 at the par-72, 6,574-yard Charlotte (N.C.) Country Club.
Lansing, a native of Dellwood, Minn., has enjoyed a productive summer. She captured the 63rd annual Minnesota Women's State Publinks Championship Monday at the New Prague Golf Course with a 72-68=140 to win by three strokes over Drake teammate Kelly Godwin (73-70=143) and Karisten Wagner (67-76=143).
Earlier, she teamed with Drake senior-to-be Ben Freeman (Fargo, N.D.) to win the Minnesota Golf Association Mixed Team Amateur shooting a 10-under-par 66-68=134 in a best ball/modified alternate shot at the Owatonna Country Club in Owatonna, Minn., June 28-29.
She started the summer off by finishing tied for fifth in match play at the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship in North Scarborough, England, June 22-26.
Lansing capped her collegiate career by becoming just the fifth player in MVC history to garner conference medalist honors more than once. She also won the individual title in 2008 and in 2010. Lansing was named the MVC Golfer of the Week 11 times during her career at Drake and finished 66th in the NCAA Central Regional May 8 in Columbus, Ind.
