Three Bulldogs Garner First-Team All-MVC Honors
NORMAL, Ill. – The Drake women's tennis team continued its return to prominence as four Bulldogs garnered All-Missouri Valley Conference accolades when the conference released it postseason awards on Thursday (April 24).
Sophomore Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.), junior Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.) were tabbed first-team All-MVC honorees at the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 singles slots, respectively, while senior Klavdija Rebol (Kranj, Slovenia) was named to the MVC All-Select squad.
The three first-team honorees were the most for the Bulldogs since four Drake players were selected to the All-MVC first team in 1999.
"It was great to see Nell (Boyd), Jordan (Eggleston) and Maddie (Johnson) receive first-team All-MVC honors this year," Drake head coach Sadhaf Pervez commented. "They have worked hard to get where they are. Also, for Klavdija (Rebol) to end her final year at Drake with All-Select team accolades is a great honor."
Owning a 53-16 combined singles/doubles ledger this season, including a team-best 30-5 mark in singles, Johnson recorded a perfect 6-0 record in singles during the MVC campaign en route to being named to the All-MVC first team for the second consecutive season. As a freshman she was selected as a first-team honoree at No. 4 singles. She and Boyd will each enter the MVC Championship with a 9-1 record in their last 10 singles contests.
Boyd maintains a team-best 60-13 combined singles/doubles ledger this season, including 29-9 and 17-3 singles marks for the overall and spring campaigns, respectively. After collecting first-team laurels at the No. 5 position as sophomore, Boyd turned in a perfect 6-0 ledger during conference play.
Recognized on the first team for the initial time, Eggleston holds a 58-16 combined singles/doubles record this season, while sporting a 28-10 singles record. She finished the conference slate with a perfect 6-0 record.
Rebol hauled in all-conference honors for the second time after being named to the All-MVC first team at the No. 3 position as a freshman. Rebol enters tournament action maintaining a 33-25 combined singles/doubles mark, including a 23-8 record in doubles matches.
The third-seeded Bulldogs (14-5) open play at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Friday (April 25) in Normal, Ill., against sixth-seeded Evansville in a 2:00 p.m. match.
